Angela Hickey from Nuneaton has contacted Binley Woods On-line about a bungalow in Heather Road known as
"Fair Oak". It was demolished several years ago and a new house was built on the site.
These three photographs, taken in 2004, show the building in the period just before it was demolished.
Angela has a letter (a copy of the envelope is shown lower down) received by her grandmother Edith Maud Evans
nee Wakelin from her husband Albert Edward Evans whilst serving with the BEF in France. It was sent prior to him
being lost aboard the Lancastria.
Angela says, "My Grandmother lived there from about 1935/36 until possibly 1940/45. The bungalow was known as
"Fair Oak" and was set well back off the road in woodland and sat in at least half an acre of land at that time.
As my grandmother only rented this property, it would also be nice to know if there is anyone that knows who owned it
at that time. If anyone has any information or pictures I would be very pleased to hear from them".
Angela emailed this picture of the envelope on 9 April 2008, exactly 68 years to the day from the date it was franked!
At that time the area wasn't known as Binley Woods. Presumably "Brandon Road" is what Rugby Road was known as in
those days.
