Dedication of Binley Woods War Memorial - 8 May 2005
The sun shone as people gathered to dedicate the War Memorial on the Village Green
in Craven Avenue. Villagers and local community groups were joined by Civic Dignitaries, local Councillors,
members of Binley Woods Parish Council, representatives from the armed forces and members of the Royal British
Legion who all came to pay their respects to the six servicemen from Binley Woods who, until now, had not been been
honoured on any local memorial.
Paul Salisbury, Chairman of the Parish Council introduced the proceedings and welcomed the guests. Rev Jill
Cheverton led the service during which the Memorial was unvelied by Alan Maddison after which wreaths were laid.
After the service, refreshments were provided at Binley Woods Village Hall. Many took the opportunity to have
their first look at the new Memorial - which came from India - before departing.
