Binley Woods Parish Council - 16 November 2010

The following message has appeared on the website operated by the parish council:

"Your council is one of the parish councils in Rugby Borough which is up for election in 2011. Please see this letter:

WALC is organising a joint event with Rugby Borough Council to inform people of the role of a parish councillor and the borough councillor and to hopefully encourage people to put themselves forward for election.

A description of how parish councils operate and financed will be given and there will be a panel with borough and parish councillors on it, to answer any questions.

It will be held on 7 Feb 2011 at 7.00 pm at Rugby Town Hall.

This is advance notice of the date so that you can inform anyone who might be interested to find out more about the work of parish councils.

Publicity material about the event will be distributed in the next few weeks which I would be grateful if you would include your council's newsletter or send to your local community newsletter.

Thank you.

These are the first tentative steps towards encouraging residents of Binley Woods to consider becoming Parish Councillors in what would be the first democratically contested election for the Parish Council since 1983. Don't let it slip away.

Orienteering in Brandon Woods - 16 November 2010

Karin Kirk, Publicity Officer for Octavian Droobers, the Coventry and Warwickshire Orienteering Club writes to say "Thank you very much for publicising our event held on Saturday 6 November in the morning. We had many new famillies, and individuals who came along and enjoyed the experience. They commented on how beautiful the woods were.

Unfortunately, the short course which the younger children took part on suffered from some vandalism. Two of the controls - 3ft high yellow slim posts with a number and an orange plastic top were taken away. We would be grateful if anyone finds these to contact me."

If you have any information, Karin can be contacted on 01926 632189, or alternatively, you can email her at karinkirk@frankton.org.

Binley Woods Parish Council, Newsletter Statement - 17 June 2010

John Cook, Clerk to Binley Woods Parish Council writes 'On the advice received by NALC's Legal Officer, the following statement will form part of the Chairman's Introduction in the next Newsletter, which will of course be distributed to every household in the village.

"In the previous newsletter the statement in the introduction could have been read as meaning that the Chairman and the Parish Council had been stressed by a request for information, whereas the stress was brought about by an accumulation of issues throughout the term. The Parish Council is always willing to provide any information to residents providing it is not of a personal nature. As Chairman, I found it frustrating that the MPs expenses scandal had caused people to think that Parish Councillors may be similarly taking advantage of expenses. Coupled with this was the withdrawal of funding for almost 8 months, and also the situatian that we were down in numbers of Councillors. This meant projects within the village had to be put on hold. If this ambiguity caused offence to residents, then we apologise. The newsletter is merely a means of communication and we would not like to see it ceased." '
