Bus Service Changes

Stagecoach has announced the biggest overhaul of it's bus services in Rugby for some time. These are due to come into effect on Sunday 5 June. Whilst many of the changes effect services in Rugby itself, our local service will also be altered.

The facility for travel through to Hillmorton is being removed and once again services from Coventry via Binley Woods will terminate in Clifton Road. People who would previously have continued beyond Clifton Road will be able to change to alternative services (1 to Lower Hillmorton and 3 to Ashlawn Estate) in Rugby.

To reduce journey time and improve reliability, the route through Long Lawford will no longer serve Main Street, Bridge Street and School Street, but will travel the full length of Cross Street. Importantly, the 30 minutes frequency will be maintained, as will the link to Walsgrave Hospital.

A War Memorial For Binley Woods At Last!

On Sunday 8 May, a Memorial Stone will be installed on the Village Green, Craven Avenue, in memory of six servicemen from Binley Woods who were killed in action during the Second World War.

The Parish Council invites residents of Binley Woods to attend the dedication service arranged at the memorial, at 2.30 pm on 8 May.

The six servicemen remembered on the memorial are Pt. George Frederick Amos, (Royal Warwickshire Regiment); Flt Lt. (Pilot) William Edwin Grantham, (Royal Air Force); Pt. Ronald James Jackson, (Northampton Regiment); Corp. John Stanley Kibble, (Worcestershire Regiment); Pt. Arthur Thomas Statham, (Sherwood Foresters); Pt. Victor Sargent Wells, (Seaforth Highlanders).

It is particularly appropriate that this memorial, which was championed by Binley Woods resident Alan Maddison of Saxon Close, is being installed on the day that marks the sixtieth anniversary of VE Day, the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Binley Woods War Memorial is Unveiled

The Last Post The sun shone as people gathered to dedicate the War Memorial on the Village Green in Craven Avenue. Some of the many of the people who
attended Paul Salisbury, Chairman of the Parish Council introduced the proceedings and welcomed the guests. Rev Jill Cheverton led the service during which the Memorial was unvelied by Alan Maddison after which wreaths were laid. After the service, refreshments were provided at Binley Woods Village Hall. Many took the opportunity to have their first look at the new Memorial - which came from India - before departing. For more pictures click here.
