Car Key Burglaries - 9 March 2004

Over the last three days we have had three Car Key Burglaries in the village, where properties have been entered, car keys stolen and the vehicle taken from outside the house.

P C Claire Clayton says, "Householders are asked NOT to leave car keys in easy to find places i.e in the hallway, on a table, or hung up by the door etc. I know this makes finding the keys easy when you are in a rush for work in the morning but this also makes it easy for the keys to be found and the car taken."

Claire adds that care should be taken to lock doors even during the day. She says "It only takes a minute for you to be distracted and before you know it your door has been opened and car keys taken. Also be mindful of where things like handbags, mobile phones and wallets are left as these are easy items for someone to take and will cause an immense amount of hassle for you phoning all the banks cancelling cards. So in short, lock doors even when you are at home, and do not leave car keys, mobile phones, handbags and wallets on display. Make their lives difficult instead of yours."

Please also be on the look out for anyone suspicious in or out of vehicles and report them directly to the Police."

If you have any information please make contact with P C Claire Clayton, either on her mobile 07879 668281 or by leaving a message on her voicemail by dialing 01788 541111 then 10302 which will take you through to her ansaphone.
